Are you looking for an out of the ordinary site for your family’s or organization’s next event? Perhaps you would like the historic atmosphere of a well maintained 200 year old building that sports many period furnishings and provides an important link to our community’s history. The Cranston Historical Society would like to invite you to host your next meeting, party, luncheon or other special event in one of our two facilities that are available for rental.
The Governor Sprague Mansion, located at 1351 Cranston Street, served as the majestic home of one of our country’s leading families in 19th century industry. The original 1790’s farmhouse was enlarged in 1864 to allow for lavish entertaining by the politically connected Sprague family which had ties to the Lincoln administration.
The mansion is handicapped accessible and includes ample parking. Kitchen facilities are available and the ballroom can accommodate up to 100 people for a reception or meeting and 60 people for a sit down meal. Please call 944-9226 for details.
The Joy Homestead, built in the late 1700’s is located at 156 Scituate Avenue. This farmhouse, home to three generations of the Joy family, served as the nucleus for what was to become an early industrial center for the area. The Joys were involved in shoe making, felt hat making and operating a grist mill.
The homestead can accommodate gatherings of up to 35 people in its large keeping room bracketed with a fireplace at each end. A small kitchen is available for light refreshments. Please call 944-9226 for details.
